Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer yesterday, took on a reverence for me. Within valuing the cost of our freedom, the service and sacrifice of our military, there lies a model for us. In a way, we are all soldiers these days. Our leaders speak to the war we are fighting. Our healthcare providers and essential workers are our heroes ministering on the front lines of this battle. We take care of ourselves by taking care of each other. Everyday interactions take on a nobility of spirit. Folks are all the time now reaching out with “How ya holdin’ up?” – “Hang in there!”

We are now in the 11th week since Thursday evening March 12 when mandated to end the run of the The Secret of My Success almost a full three weeks early. None of us will ever forget that company meeting on the set. Opening the house was on hold – a capacity crowd still in the Grand Gallery 30 minutes before curtain. Onstage with the cast, crew and musicians, I recall speaking to them of it breaking our hearts – a true out of body experience – I remember their faces, their eyes, the stage lights illuminating, intensifying the emotion of the moment – the promise of love and protection. The following day is Friday the 13th. Kinky Boots is postponed.

Since then that uncertainty is still with us as to how and when we gather to rehearse, build, perform and audiences attend next season. But there are expert proposals, guidelines and regulations developing and the creativity pouring into the productions for sure has not been shut-down!

As soon as we get the all clear and all the institutional safety measures established – you will experience the work into which everyone has put their hearts and their smarts!

The virtual production meetings on our computer screens continue to excite! As solemnly as safety precautions and production design are being adjusted, the invention and imagination are stronger than ever! Now it remains to be seen how all of this – while suspended in this fluctuating climate – is finalized, but I can guarantee that when we ultimately get that green light to go, go, go! – you are going to get great shows! Sets and costumes and casting are looking brilliant, dear reader, never fear! Rock of Ages and Cinderella are developing thrillingly and Kinky Boots is a knock-out ready-to-go because realize – it would be running right now! During the closings, Paramount’s production and creative teams have remained open working on making next season happen! As soon as we get the all clear and all the institutional safety measures established – you will experience the work into which everyone has put their hearts and their smarts!

Believe it – we’re hangin’ in there with you and for you!

Love & thanks,

Jim
