Greetings, dear reader! Wherever you may be in your day, know in this moment, I am sharing with you all the goodness I’ve received over the past several days and am thanking you for celebrating with us at Paramount the astonishing press opening of our production of Million Dollar Quartet on Saturday night! Upon load-in of Kevin Depinet’s beauty of a set a couple weeks back, while expressing awe for everyone’s work on our tech, design and production staff, there I was on stage commenting to a member of our team:
We gotta give ’em a good show! The world is going through hell out there!
Amidst the tempest of hurricane disasters and the turmoil of national and global politics, getting our community together for a good time, feeling hopeful and positive about how much we all love music and the art of theatre, it’s the perfect tonic for these trying times. To be with the thousands of folks on their feet this weekend, whoopin’ it up, singin’ and clappin’ along, with cheers, screams, having so much fun, man o’ man, what a lift! Here’s proof how great performances and a blast from the past can get your blood goin’, so energizing! Standing by Tim Rater’s side looking up at the stage afterwards, I felt truly astounded at Tim’s achievement getting us here. Look what’s happening! Season Seven! Patrons reach out to thank us for “this gift”!
The thing that gets me is having you and our audience understand what a gift this is to all of us working here.
“Thank you” doesn’t even begin to express the appreciation for the privilege it is to serve the crowds attending and supporting our Broadway Series. With this appreciation comes responsibility and accountability for sustaining and continuing to do the best we can for you.
Amber Mak, director/choreographer for The Little Mermaid and Hairspray, has a spectacular holiday extravaganza planned for you this winter with Paramount’s production of Elf! Then in February, Katie Spelman makes her major directorial debut with Cabaret in what some subscribers are now recognizing as “The Third Slot!” Both women, theatre practitioners of great vision and originality, bring us superbly skilled companies of actors working with Paramount’s Casting Director Trent Stork and Company Manager Kaylee Oost. For Once, the hit Broadway musical adaptation of the 2007 film (Academy Award for Best Original Song “Falling Slowly”), winning the 2012 Tony for Best Musical and the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, the highest caliber of casting and design continues for our spring of 2018 production in April.
