Here we are two weeks into midsummer, a summer that feels like it’s passing too quickly! Rehearsals for Newsies begin in three weeks! I’m not freaking out. I’m feeling ecstatic about our cast, (thank you Casting Gods!) but we are in auditions today for kid brother “Les,” a terrific character for a young actor we have yet to find. Actually, we are in call backs for all the kids in Season 9! But we’re really under the gun to find our little guy!
We’re starting out this morning seeing young people for “Chip” in Beauty and the Beast. Yes, girls and boys! Why not? With a break right now between appointments let me tell ya, it’s fascinating what these young actors bring to their reading, how their individual voice colors the story making it their own, making it new.
Kids are so honest. Then life happens, it seems, right? I know, I got into this last week, but boy, kids have so much to teach us.
Have to make this short today. Want to leave you with a sense of the remarkable experience it is to be in the presence of this talent and energy. And the intelligence. So smart. And funny. Real comedians. Kids are so honest. Then life happens, it seems, right? I know, I got into this last week, but boy, kids have so much to teach us. They grow up so fast. As cliche as that is, seeing all the young talent around here making gains, bringing these stories to life, awe-inspiring natural artists; I really have the best job. And all of it and everyone and this summer has got to slow down!
Back to work!
Love & thanks,
Jim
