I’m on my lunch break Wednesday from rehearsal for Paramount’s Mamma Mia!. Haven’t had a spare second! On Sunday, speaking with WGN’s Dean Richards on his Morning Radio Show (listen to it here!), I found myself saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life directing a show!” All I can attest it to is enjoying the contrast in subject matter we’ve dealt with over the last season or so. The weight of social and political issues, murders, suicides, guns, gang violence, racism, police brutality, etc. is a very real burden and responsibility to carry through a pre-production and rehearsal process. No such burden here!

Let’s do justice to this story of a young woman’s quest to find her father while her mother Donna relives the good old days of her girl group, singing on the mainland of Greece, and her romantic flings of the 70’s! ABBA’s music is the catchiest and sticks with you! Even the ballads rock with the joy of an individual’s self-discovery winning and losing at the game of love. This tale unfolds on an island enchanted, and it magically brings out the good in everyone who has arrived. There’s not one bad guy! Imagine!

I’m a “happy camper” as the phrase goes. Happy for this remarkably gifted cast and happy for all of you who get to be here in the audience and participate in the celebration of wanting to be the best you can be! Thank you, ABBA!

Love & thanks,

Jim
