“I’m scared to close my eyes. I’m scared to open them.”

The found footage horror genre got off to an explosive start with The Blair Witch Project, the film that made headlines and magazine covers for its supposedly true story. Of course, we know better now, but that doesn’t make this story of three filmmakers heading off into the woods in search of a mythical witch any less terrifying. Made on a shoestring budget of $60,000, The Blair Witch Project defied even the most optimistic predictions to become one of the most highest-grossing and talked about films of 1999.
