When it comes to comedy, Chicago is a driving force. The Windy City area has produced some of the biggest names in improv, sketch and stand-up comedy in the country. So we’ve tapped into the talent pool of professional stand-ups that call Chicagoland home when they’re not touring the nation doing what they do best: making people laugh.

Welcome to the Copley Comedy Series. On select Saturday nights through May 2 amazingly talented professional stand-ups take the stage in the intimate 165-seat Copley Theatre. From Zanies, the Improv and Chicago Theatre to the Fillmore, Symphony Hall, HBO and Nexflix, these seasoned stand ups are coming to Aurora intent on showing you a good time – interpret that as you will.

About the performers

Dwayne Kennedy is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and Emmy Award–winning producer whose comedy is as smart as it is fearless. A 2019 Emmy winner for the twice-nominated CNN original series United Shades of America, Dwayne has spent decades sharpening a voice that’s incisive, socially aware, and relentlessly funny. A Chicago native, Dwayne got his start at the legendary Zanies Comedy Club, where his sharp observational style quickly set him apart. Since then, he’s become known as a comedian who doesn’t just get laughs—he gets think-laughs. His satirical takes on culture, politics, and everyday absurdities have earned praise from comedy heavyweights like Chris Rock and Marc Maron. Dubbed a “world-class stand-up” by The Village Voice, Dwayne is the winner of the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and has appeared on some of the most iconic stages in late-night comedy, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Comedy Central Presents, and Premium Blend. Behind the scenes, Dwayne’s writing credits include The Arsenio Hall Show, The Orlando Jones Show, and the critically acclaimed Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, where he also appeared as a correspondent. One of his segments was named “The Most Intentionally Funny Video of the Day” by Nerdist. On screen, Dwayne’s acting credits include Seinfeld, Martin, Amen, 227, and the feature film How High. Smart, unapologetic, and endlessly engaging, Dwayne Kennedy is a comedian who challenges audiences while keeping them laughing—proving that the sharpest comedy cuts the deepest and hits the hardest laughs.

Jimmy McHugh has been dishing out his style of comedy for over 40 years. Born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago, Jimmy blends a mixture of classic observational humor emphasized with his unique vocal and facial expressions.
