Good morning, Dear Reader!
A few good words about the state of the art in Paramount’s Newsies rehearsals: astounding, astonishing, awe-inspiring! Away from the tough, troubling times we live in, our space is a haven of goodness, energy and craft. We’ve got something here bringing out the best in those performing it and those attending it.
While pure escapist entertainment on the surface, it resonates meaningfully and surprisingly from within the way it addresses social issues.
Yesterday, a day into our second week of rehearsal, scenes and songs are moving us, the dancing is thrilling us, the cast’s collective talent meets challenges in the work with strength and beauty. I’m excited for our audience, our community to see and experience it. There’s a light around all of this creating hope in the potential of what it is we do best: work together.
While pure escapist entertainment on the surface, it resonates meaningfully and surprisingly from within the way it addresses social issues. (It seems the more times change, the more they stay the same.) What is making a difference for me is how an incredible vulnerability, compassion and humanity put a shine on this theatrical gem. It’s my hope you see that difference for yourself.
