Step into the dynamic world of stage combat and choreography in this introductory workshop by Matthew Weidenbener, designed for young performers! This session focuses on the fundamentals of creating compelling and executing and safe stage fights and choreography. Participants will explore unarmed stage combat techniques and principles that bring action scenes to life while emphasizing the critical importance of safety, trust, and collaboration. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll learn: * The basics of unarmed stage combat techniques. * How to keep yourself and fellow actors safe onstage * Stage combat reactions to sell the scene * A choreographed fight combination for you and a partner.

Matthew Weidenbener (he/him) is excited to be teaching at Paramount School of the Arts! He is a Performer and Choreographer and Educator based in Chicago. Matthew has an avid love for youth arts education, as he believes in the importance of performance arts training for young performers and the impact it’s had on him and many others. Young performers are the performers of tomorrow! He has taught throughout the Chicagoland area since 2019. His Chicago performance and choreography credits include Paramount Theatre (Frozen, Billy Elliot, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory), Marriott Theatre (Music Man, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Damn Yankees, Hello, Dolly!, Elephant & Piggie), Young People’s Theatre of Chicago, Porchlight Music Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre, Mercury Theatre, Music Theater Works, and TATC.
