AUDITION-BASED PROGRAMMING

Exclusively at Paramount School of the Arts (PSA) our teaching artists and staff have built the types of programming we wish we had access to as young performers. These programs are not only packed with intense skill-building curriculum, but also access to professional artists currently working in the field. All of our audition-based programs are year long commitments. Students get the full benefit from each program by enrolling in them for the entire year. Students in our audition based programming will have various performance opportunities, as well as free classes, free tickets to the Broadway Series shows at the Paramount, free talk-back discussions after the Paramount shows with actors, discounts on private voice lessons, free master classes with Broadway performers, professional headshots, and discounts on all PSA merchandise. You’re getting the best training and the best value all in your backyard.

Audition submissions for the Fall program are due by: August 13, 2021  This is for all students that wish to participate in the YEAR LONG program that starts in the fall.  Space is limited.

Youth Theater Conservatory

Youth Theater Conservatory

$450 Per Semester

Youth Theater Conservatory (YTC) is a three-year training program for middle school students in grades 6-8. It’s for students with a passion for singing, dancing, and acting who need to express their creativity. Over three years, students build a strong foundation in intermediate and advanced classes in musical theater. This program is fantastic preparation for students interested in auditioning for Musical Theater Institute, our high-school pre-professional training program. To maximize your training, we suggest students enroll in all three years of the program. However, we realize that many might just be discovering YTC. In those cases, we host auditions for new students every fall and late spring, and we accept new students in the FALL and SUMMER programs. The Fall program is a year long commitment and will run in both of our fall and spring semesters.

The morning hours are spent on training voice, acting and dance, while the afternoon is spent applying that training to rehearsal of the showcase The summer program is for students in rising grades 6-8.

Musical Theater Institute

Musical Theater Institute

$450 Per Semester

Musical Theater Institute (MTI) is an elite pre-professional training program designed for high school students in grades 9-12 who are looking to make a career in musical theater. This is the most comprehensive training program outside of Chicago. Our four-year program prepares students to go on to the best college training programs in the country or to venture out in the professional theater world. To reach your peak potential, we suggest students take all four years of MTI. However, we do accept new students into the program every FALL and SUMMER with auditions held in July and April. The Fall program is a year long commitment and will run in both of our fall and spring semesters.  All students in MTI are required to take private voice lessons outside of classes.

SUMMER (For MTI Years 1-4) An intensive camp for those truly dedicated to the art form. The morning focus is on training in voice, acting and dance. The afternoon is spent in challenging rehearsals that will have you applying all of your newly acquired skills and techniques in preparation for a public performance of a specially crafted cabaret show. This camp is open to students in rising grades 9-12.

Paramount Dance Project

Paramount Dance ProjecT

Paramount Dance Project (PDP) is the official dance company of Paramount School of the Arts. PDP is for high school students in grades 9-12. This program combines intense technique sessions with an introduction to diverse styles of dance. Company members train five hours a week together as a company, with the opportunity to add a sixth hour of Tap Technique free of charge. Members also work on original pieces of choreography as a group, as well as solo work, all of which will be premiered at their end of the season showcase. Being a PDP company member provides dancers the opportunity to train with like minded individuals that are looking to expand their technical skills, open their artistic development and prepare for continuing their dance journey after high school. All company members will also receive personalized assistance in preparation for college program auditions.

This is one week dance intensive that immerses students in technique and artistry, while working on conditioning and developing their own choreography. The camp culminates in a public student choreography showcase. We currently audition new company members for the Fall and Summer trimesters. The Fall program is a year long commitment and will run in both of our fall and spring semesters.

Auditions

  • Students currently enrolled in YTC, MTI or PDP are guaranteed a spot in summer camps/intensives, as long as they sign up during the priority registration period. 
  • Video Audition submissions are due by August 13
  • In person auditions are on August 14 by appointment only.

Audition Information
  • Please fill out this form and submit a video audition with the following technical elements:
    • 1st arabesque right and left
    • Grande Jete right and left
    • Saute de Chat right and left
    • Leap in second right and left
    • Pirouette En Dehors and En Dedans right and left, parallel and turned out
    • 1 minute of original choreography in any style of dance. The song choice and choreography must be age appropriate.
Course Work
  • PDP members will take classes 2 days a week. The courses are as follows:
    • Tuesdays 5—7 PM
      • Technique class in ballet and jazz. Company members will train together in a 2 hour long technique class focusing on ballet and jazz technique.
    • Thursdays 6–8 PM
      • Conditioning and Artistry. Company members will train together in a 1 hour long conditioning class that will include training in strength, endurance, flexibility, and anatomy understanding. They will train together for 2 hours in artistry which will include learning choreography in different styles of dance, work on creating original choreography together, and creating pieces for company based performance opportunities when available.

  • $700.00 per semester (This covers both days of classes)

Acting Institute

Acting Institute

$375 Per Semester

Acting Institute offers an audition based intensive and immersive theater experience to high school students over a 4 year period.

Age Range
  • Grades 9–12 / Age 14–19

Areas of study will be focused into 4 umbrella categories:

  • Acting
  • Voice and Movement
  • History/Society 
  • Technical Theatre

Students will also be given opportunities to attend performances, community programs, masterclasses, talk backs, special field trips, and private coaching. By the end of the 4 year program the students should be ready to audition for a university theatre program or enter the world of professional acting.
