FEATURED SCHOLARSHIPS
The Cates‑Foster Scholarship for Technical Theatre
This scholarship honors generations of the Cates‑Foster family, whose contributions to technical excellence at Paramount Theatre date back to 1931.
Brothers George and Wayne Foster began their careers as Projectionists and a Stagehand in 1931. George’s son, Mickey Foster, followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the Paramount team in the 1960s, becoming Technical Director of the Theatre in 1979. Since then, multiple family members have shaped Paramount’s technical legacy. Lou Ann Cates, wife of Mickey, retired as Technical Director and Union Steward in 2019, continuing a long-standing family tradition of service.
Scholarship funds help cover:
- Tuition assistance for technical theatre classes and camps
- Class supplies and project expenses
- Field trip costs
Technical theatre encompasses all that goes into making a staged production, including scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, media, wigs, hair and makeup and properties. Each area is vital to bringing a production’s world to life.
