WANTED: Education & Community Engagement Interns

The Aurora Civic Center Authority (Paramount Theatre), an innovative organization located along the Fox River in the heart of historic Aurora, Illinois (one hour from downtown Chicago), is seeking Education and Community Engagement Interns for its 2017-2018 season of Broadway Series musicals: Million Dollar Quartet directed by Jim Corti, Elf The Musical directed by Amber Mak, Cabaret directed by Katie Spelman and Once directed by Jim Corti.

DEPARTMENT – Education and Community Engagement

DIRECT REPORTING – This position reports to Director of Education and Community Engagement Shannon Cameron

WORKS CLOSELY WITH – Marketing, Group Sales, President/CEO, Artistic and Production staff

SCHEDULE – Flexible schedule, but must commit to at least 8 hours a week.

COMPENSATION – Unpaid. Candidates must receive college/university credit. Other benefits include complimentary tickets and valuable experience and networking opportunities in the Chicago theatre community.

DURATION – Flexible start and end dates.

POSITION SUMMARY – Interns will work with the Director of Education and Community Engagement on a variety of projects including school residencies, master classes, community programming, audience engagement and programming the new school of performing arts.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES – Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing lesson plans and study guides for Broadway Series Shows, contacting schools to participate in Master Classes, meeting with community partners to plan events, creating class ideas for the School of Performing Arts, writing curriculum and database management.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred)
  • Current knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Some experience with lesson planning preferred
  • Passion for breaking down barriers so students can access the arts
  • Comfort with talking to new people about our programming
  • Must be able to receive college/university credit for internship
