We’ve got a Winter Olympics of our own going on right here at Paramount in Downtown Aurora! Saturday night’s Press Opening of Cabaret razzled and dazzled with world class visual spectacle and aural sensation. Even more, it reached people’s hearts and minds, moving us to feel and think as an audience discovering collectively composers Kander and Ebb’s depth of purpose and terrifying warning. Cheering, laughter, sighs, gasps and moments of provoked silence attend this theatrical experience hard to describe and put into words. And that is as it should be. The racy, risque, roaring twenties collide with the Aryan threat of nationalism in Berlin tearing lives apart. We watch together and experience the incredible sadness knowing the doomed future of millions of innocent human beings in the aftermath of this story. It so fascinates me how we commune in the theatre. As we empathize with the loss of love in this world it elevates us. Our being human is ennobled through our attendance to the art of how it all is rendered for us. Our superb creative artists and everyone on Paramount’s production and technical staff, our actors, orchestra, backstage crews, front of house and box office teams are true Olympians, our heroes here to serve you. They are invaluable and deserve all the appreciation we can give them!
Ha! Cabaret‘s Director/Choreographer Katie Spelman just texted me:
We did it!
We sure did, Katie! With so much praise and gratitude to you, we’ve won the Gold!
Love & thanks,
Jim
