OPENING ACT: Matthew Santos
Matthew Santos has established himself as one of the most exceptional talents to emerge from the Chicago music scene in decades. With a voice consistently compared to that of the late Jeff Buckley and likened to a male version of Adele, he has been the subject of praise from such artists as Kimbra, Eddie Vedder, and John Legend. His highly acclaimed collaboration with Lupe Fiasco on the hit “Superstar” ended up being Fiasco’s first Top Ten single and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song Collaboration. Santos unique, homegrown hybrid style touching on alternative/indie-rock/soul and folk genres has also put him on MTV, TRL, MTV Music Awards, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Lollapalooza, South by Southwest and more. The Chicago Sun-Times recognized Santos as an artist who is “organic and soulful and moody, full of interesting musical ideas and dripping with serious vocal talent.”

UPDATE: APRIL 16, 2014
Friday night just keeps getting cooler. Six of Susan Volez’s students from her Rock Violin Studio will be joining the band on stage for a couple numbers.
Below is the line-up of young artists.
When Ruby was 7 years-old, she was challenged to set a summer goal for herself- she decided she wanted to learn how to play the violin. She is now 11 and hasn’t looked back once. She is super excited to be on stage with Susan and Poi Dog.
Raven began studying guitar and violin at age 9 and has been studying with Susan for the past three years – making the transition from classical to rock. Her musical influences include Paul Westerberg, Poison Ivy, Billie Joe Armstrong, Frank Iero, Billy Corgan and Ray Toro. She will be attending Harold Washington in the fall.
Alena fell in love with the Irish fiddle at age 6 and added rock violin last year. She is influenced by many traditional Irish fiddlers including locals Liz Carroll and Sean Cleland. Alena is 12 and attends the Chicago Waldorf School.
At age 9, Anela was curious to see if she could play a guitar like a violin. She wove yarn between guitar strings, but it didn’t really work, so she took up the violin and loves it! She is in the 6th grade attending Dr. Martin Luther King Literary and Fine Arts School in Evanston where she enjoys playing violin and flute.
Draven came home when he was 7, told his mom they introduced the string instruments at school and that he would like to start Orchestra in 3rd grade, and learn to play the violin. She said, “Violin? What makes you want to play the violin?” He replied, “It makes my heart sing!” Draven is now 16 and attends St. Charles East High School. He loves playing classical & rock on violin and guitar. Musical influences AC/DC, there was a Billy Idol phase, Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Andrew Jackson.
Eva began playing violin on her 8th birthday. She also plays trombone and sings in the choir. Eva is 11 years-old and attends Pierce Downer School in Downers Grove.
THANKS NORM FOR THE VIDEO
Norm Smyth, who has been a life-long Poi fan, which is 20-plus years in Poi Dog years, sent us video of Frank and the Band from their gig at the Paramount last year. Needless to say, Norm has his tickets for the April show. If you’ve never seen Poi in concert, we’ll give you Norm’s number. He’s seen them hundreds of times and he’ll tell you what an amazing experience Poi Live is.
